Protože to pro mnohé z vás může být také zklamání, rád bych vás povzbudil informací, že se snažíme zajistit promítání filmu ve Velké Británii v rámci letošního programu Českého centra.

As it might also be disappointing to many of you, I would like to cheer you up by letting you know that we are trying to arrange a screening of the film in the UK as part of this year’s Czech Centre programme.
Meanwhile, speaking of Oscar awarded films, I’m pleased to invite you to a screening of our last Oscar winner and one of the most iconic post-1989 Czech feature films, Kolya. The evening will pay homage to Jan Svěrák’s 60th birthday by also screening his student Academy-awarded film Oil Gobblers. Among the guests of honour will be the multi award-winning producer Eric Abraham who will open the event by sharing unforgettable personal stories from many years of collaboration and friendship with Jan.
For jazz music fans Daniel Bulatkin’s return to London’s Soho Pizza Express Jazz Club should not be missed. The Herak/Bulatkin Quartet with their internationally inspired compositions promises to deliver an electrifying fusion of piano, double bass, drums and vibraphone accompanied by the saxophone tones of special guest Will Vinson.
For the third February in a row we remember and express our support for the courageous fight and determined struggle of the Ukrainians to defend their homeland against continuous unprovoked Russian military aggression. Continuing our commitment to support the Ukrainian cause by events raising public awareness and fundraising we have decided to bring to the London audience a thrilling, gripping and intimate testimony to the human spirit and resilience through reportage by the award-winning correspondent Martin Dorazín. The film War Correspondent recently received the Best Documentary Feature Award at the 2024 Warsaw Film Festival.
The end of February will be dedicated to unveiling a series of programmes and events centring on graphic design. First the main exhibition Identita – The Story of Czech Graphic Design, will open at the Vitrínka and Bouda Galleries presenting the journey of graphic design from Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century to the present. The story of graphic design is placed in its broader cultural, social and political context illustrated through objects and public spaces, among them film posters, books, national symbols and even city navigation systems. The opening of the exhibition will be preceded by the UK debut of the film Identity at the Design Museum presenting over a hundred years of Czech visual and graphic mastery.
As a brief heads up for the forthcoming March programme I would like to highlight the third annual edition of the popular series Women in Focus starting with one of the leading contemporary architectural figures, Lenka Petráková, from Zaha Hadid Architects in London.
Although February may be the shortest month in terms of the number of days, I hope this will be offset by the numerous opportunities to join interesting and engaging programmes.
